The Mac Pro supports up to three 4K resolution screens connected at once, or up to six non-4K monitors. All is not lost, however, as the DisplayPort supports 4K without any restrictions, and each Thunderbolt port doubles as a Mini DisplayPort connection. Indeed, Panasonic is the only company to have an HDMI 2.0 decoding chip, which is why it’s the only company to offer it on its products. This means it can’t support 4K resolution at 60fps without some compromise in colour sampling, a common issue with most current 4K TVs with the exception of the Panasonic L65WT600. Sadly, however, the HDMI port is only a version 1.4 port, not 2.0. There are four USB 3.0 ports, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and also an HDMI port. We’ll cover these in a little more detail later on, but Thunderbolt 2.0 offers a maximum 20Gb/s throughput and can support up to 36 daisy-chained peripherals. The GPUs aren’t user replaceable per se given they’re custom designed for the Mac Pro, but they are removable and Apple hasn’t ruled out offering upgrades in future.Īt the rear is a decent selection of I/O ports dominated by the six Thunderbolt 2.0 ports. Inside the RAM and flash storage is user accessible and replaceable. It slides on and off with ease with a single switch locking it into place. The other thing we like is how easy it is to take the casing on and off. It also, dare we say it, makes it very easy to steal as there’s locking mechanism to secure the Mac Pro to a desk. You really could pop it in a bag and take it to wherever you need to use it. It weighs 5kg, which is heavier than you expect when you look at it – but is very light by workstation or even standard desktop PC standards. The design of the ‘trash can’ exterior means it’s very easy to simply pick up and carry your Mac Pro somewhere else. There are some other nice design flourishes, too. It’s an incredibly efficient system that, not matter what we threw at it, always kept the Mac Pro running cool, and with barely a whisper of fan noise. This core combines with a single large fan at the top to draw cool air in from the bottom to and kick it out the top. The inside of the Mac Pro is basically one giant heat sink that runs from top to bottom with the two GPUs and the motherboard bolted to it. To do so Apple has designed a custom ‘thermal core’ for the Mac Pro. To fit that much hardware into a PC this size is a serious feat of engineering. In the base-spec it’s two 2GB AMD FirePro D300 cards, which are joined by a quad-core 3.7GHz Intel Xeon E5 processor, 12GB 1,866MHz DDR3 ECC memory and 256GB PCI-e flash storage. No matter which version of the Mac Pro you start with you will always get two GPUs. Sure, it looks lovely on the outside and it’s easy to admire that, but it’s what’s going on inside that’s really interesting. To understand why you need to appreciate how much power is crammed inside the Mac Pro, and how astounding it is considering it’s about the same height and width as an iPad Air. In this sense the Mac Pro is the best kind of Apple product, one that makes even the most ardent Apple detractors nod approvingly. We don’t get too many visitors to our corner of TrustedReviews towers, but the Mac Pro has seen assorted randoms pop by for a peek and nose around. The Mac Pro wills you to just stop and stare a while. The Mac Pro is one of those great moments where form and function are totally at one, and that’s a very exciting thing indeed. But it is nothing like any workstation you’ve seen before. In other words the Mac Pro is, in the old school parlance, a workstation. It’s a PC meant for sound engineers, video editors, and other creative professionals – basically anyone who needs a standard desktop that can handle serious intensive work. You could use it as such, but the dual AMD FirePro graphics and numerous options, topping out with a 12-core CPU and 64GB RAM shows this is no ordinary PC. Not only is it expensive, with the base-spec leaving you no change from £2,500, it’s not really a consumer PC. The Mac Pro is that computer you would dearly love to own, but probably never will.

Games are fun and engaging, and children often do not realize how much they are learning when they are having fun playing a game with a friend or family member. Game playing is one of our favourite ways to develop sight word recall. There are many fun and interesting ways to expose a child repeatedly to a word without relying on flashcard drills. Exposing children to sight words in a variety of different ways and formats, both in context and in isolation, is it important to sight word mastery. Even a good reader needs around 20 exposures to each word. However, young students may have a hard time understanding or identifying sight words. You see, they fill a niche in the English language that people who have been speaking the language all their life will instinctively know regardless of your actual education on the matter. Mastery generally involves lots of repetition, but it definitely does not have to be dull or boring! An average reader needs around 30 exposures to a word for recall to become automatic. Spread the loveSight words are an essential aspect of language that is often difficult for young kids to grasp fully. Repeat this process over and over again Let your child erase the words so they get a chance to play in the shaving cream Activity 2. Write a sight word that you are working on in the shaving cream and ask your child if they know what it is. Typically, when children begin to learn to read sight words they start with small subsets or lists of 5-10 new words at a time, moving on to a new set of words once each previous set is mastered. Spread it out so the shaving cream is all over the tray 3. The very first page is the Dolch pre-primer sight words list. The Dolch word list contains 220 non-nouns divided into five groups, and an associated list of 95 high frequency nouns. How many words are in the Dolch Sight Word List? These words are believed to represent between 50% and 75% of all vocabulary used at a grade school level. First Grade: all are as away back be because been but by came can come did from get going had has have he her here him his how if into little look make. Dolch sourced these words by studying the vocabulary of popular children’s books. The Dolch Word List is a list of common vocabulary developed by Edward William Dolch in 1936. There are many different sets of sight words commonly used in schools and reading programs – the Dolch Word List, Fry’s Instant Words and the Magic 100 words are all very popular. It is for this reason that most reading programs recommend that children develop the ability to recall high frequency words automatically or ‘on sight.’ Children with a good grasp of the most regularly used sight words are able to read more fluently which, in turn, supports good reading comprehension. Why is it important to learn sight words?Īs children read, if they stop to phonetically decode a word the flow of text is interrupted, and comprehension of what has been read can be lost as the reader’s focuses on the task of decoding. Unfortunately for those learning to read, many of these words are irregularly spelt, making them difficult to sound out phonetically. Scroll below to see the words children should memorize each grade level and fun sigh word activities for each list.Sight words, or high frequency words as they’re often known, are vocabulary words that appear frequently in verbal and written communication – words such as the, come, to and where. However, these objects do not, as with Cage, stay put during performance, but are inserted and removed by the performer during playing. The Cage analogy is reinforced by Crumbs insertion of objects between the strings, thus preparing the piano. This reveals a peculiar, childish, humoristic whim, not unlike the counting and whistling in some Stockhausen pieces, or the bird whistles in some Cage works. Of course, many un-orthodox playing practices are exercised by the brilliant pianist Margaret Leng Tan, like plucking strings inside the piano, playing glissandi across strings, sliding a scrape along a string and so forth and the truly extraneous sound appears in whistles and vocal utterances This is a true listening adventure for the clean-eared! Crumb composed Volume I in memory of Béla Bartók and Volume II in memory of Gustav Mahler.Īs the booklet text by Steven Bruns (which to a high degree constitutes the source for these comments) states, one of the more important aspects of Makrokosmos is the exploration of timbres, innumerable variations on nuances of timbres. I suppose most of us thereby associate to Stockhausen and his rightly famous Tierkreis, which has been recorded innumerable times in different instrumentations, starting with Stockhausens original concept for music boxes which can still be ordered from Stockhausen-Verlag ! Crumbs Zodiac adventure as presented here has also been the focus of many a recording!Ĭrumb has exemplified the characters of the Zodiac with the initials of specified persons born under those signs, like Lorca and Brahms, to mention a couple. Crumb has designed the last of the four parts of the three divisions of the two sections as a symbol, thus in Volume 1 presenting piece number 4 as a cross, number 8 as circle and number 12 as a spiral.Īs can be viewed above, Crumb also had an affinity for fantasy-evoking titles! Some of these do remind me not so little of Terry Riley's habit of giving his pieces beautiful and thought-provoking titles, like on his album Harp of New Albion (piano in just intonation) and Salome Dances for Peace (String Quartet)Ĭrumb has connected this musical venture with the star signs of the Zodiac. In George Crumbs Makrokosmos, the two sections are divided into three parts each, themselves sectioned into four parts that are to be played without interruption. The apparent ease of the flow of events in Makrokosmos may persuade one of an improvisational approach, but this is belied by the comprehensive sketches, with planning of the over-arching intent as well as the minute details. Naturally, Crumbs attempt is a modernistic one, using amplification and all sorts of performance methods that belong in a new era, an era of John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen. The manner of going about his chore reminds one of earlier attempts at writing full-fledged piano works which also succeeded brilliantly, in their time for example Johan Sebastian Bachs Das Wohltemperierte Klavier, Frédéric Chopins Etudes & Preludes, Franz Liszts Trancendental Etudes, Dmitry Shostakovichs Preludes & Fugues etcetera. This may seem a mighty task, but solely the honest intention of achieving something like that is bound to reach far, and far he has reached. In one of his jotted-down notes Crumb says that his intention was to write an all-inclusive technical work for piano all conceivable techniques. These pieces constitute a massive and detailed exploration of the sounding possibilities of the piano. Tora! Tora! Tora! (Cadenza Apocalittica) Ģ0. Soil cohesion was strongly correlated to soil water content, and D1 and D2 percent in 20. Both soil water content and soil cohesion were decreased during two stages in two sites. Underground pressure monitoring showed that P1 during stage 2 was significantly greater than that during stage 1, indicating the large difference of pressure characteristics in tail areas of working face between two stages. In comparison, coal mining had slight effect on organic matter, internal fraction angle, and D1 and D2 percent. This study proved that soil water content, soil cohesion and soil porosity were greatly decreased, while bulk density and dry density were increased by coal mining. Soil sampling was conducted in same locations before and after mining in 2014. The results are important for optimizing the slope geometry of open-pit mines and can be replicated in other regions.īased on soil sampling, lab experiment and support resistance monitoring, the disturbance of soil physical quality indices between different underground mining stages of No 52303 working face was studied in semi-arid region of western China. Slope geometry optimization obtained with this drawdown scenario led to adequate inter-ramp and overall safety factors for the final pit design, reducing the barren-to-ore ratio to 0.38, much less than the present ratio (≈ 3). The groundwater control system obtained with 11 horizontal drains and 1 pumping well was considered the most adequate from the geotechnical and economic perspectives. The factors of safety obtained, the drawdown costs and the water table elevation of each section were selected as indicators for obtaining the optimal drawdown scenario using a multi-objective tool. Stability analyzes using the limit equilibrium method were used to obtain the bench, inter-ramp, and overall factors of safety of different representative sections. The groundwater simulation scenarios included the combination of deep horizontal drains and pumping wells. The optimization approach analyzed different scenarios of groundwater drawdown for the final pit of a phosphate mine to improve the pit slopes stability. This study documents a mining plan using groundwater drawdown scenarios that illustrate how geotechnical, economic, and environmental indicators can be combined to obtain optimum slope geometry for open-pit mining. The use of numerical models to simulate groundwater drawdown and slope stability can be an alternative to assess cost-benefit trade-offs for decision-making. However, safe geotechnical conditions generally involve redesigning the geometry of slopes and groundwater drawdown, significantly increasing the costs of mining operations. The design of open-pit mines should balance safety and economy. This extension, called "Chromium Web Store," is not found on the Chrome Web Store. I know it sounds crazy, but we are going to download an extension that allows us to download extensions from the official Chrome Web Store without creating or signing into a Google account. This method is the best approach, especially if you're using something like Ungoogled Chromium. This often means reading patch notes you wouldn't want to miss a critical security update. However, this is a double-edged sword you also have to stay on top of these updates in the first place. Installing extensions by hand does give you greater control over the exact versions of extensions you're running.įor example, you can more easily rollback an update that keeps crashing your browser when you install extensions manually. Hence the want to install Chromium extensions manually. So, in general, this may very well not be an issue to everyone, but it is still a viable issue for some. Let's not forget that a number of extensions on the Chrome Web Store have been found to steal user data.ĭepending on who you are and what you require need for your own privacy wants and needs, none of this may be a big deal to you perhaps your Google account is a "throwaway" account that you use when interacting with any other Google service in the first place. This is Google's hyper personalized recommendation system at work.Īlso, not to mention that some of the "privacy" related extensions and other related software may turn out to not to be as private or secure as advertised. You may also start seeing advertisements (can we recommend an adblocking solution while we're at it?) across the web for "privacy" and "secure" software. You may start getting search "suggestions" that relate to privacy extensions. What I mean by that 2nd point in the above sentence, is that you might start seeing more extensions related to "privacy" once you download a privacy related extension. This means that if you download a privacy related extension straight from the web store, 1) this gets directly linked your google account, which is subject to Google's privacy policy and 2) feeds some information straight to Google. This information can be relatively harmless, but we know how hard Big Tech mines any bit of information available.įor example, with the Chrome Web Store, you can only download extensions if you have and are signed into a Google account. Naturally, when you install apps and extensions from any kind of web store directly, you're trading some of your information. Installing extensions by hand or simply bypassing the Chrome Web Store, can improve your privacy. This is probably the biggest reason for most users choosing to install extensions manually. Why would you ever choose to install an extension by hand?Įxact individual reasons vary, but in general you can boil it down to a couple of points: Judging from there may be a few strategies available consistent with current practices:ģ) remove the federated_learning component,įor (1) EFF says the only option at the moment is disabling third party cookies (3) I don't know whether locally decided or not (4) would probably be tedious as FLoC is a moving target. It seems necessary to disable the fingerprinting of Chromium users currently caused by the "federated learning" component, in order to preserve the privacy of Fedora users, who cannot be expected to consent to such Google experiments (otherwise they'd be using Google Chrome). I then installed v8.4.2.9 with the Dymo unplugged and plugged it in only at the end as recommended. By the way, the Dymo uninstaller is a joke. Using EasyFind, I removed all Files containing the string “Dymo” in them except for the cups Dymo 400 Labelwriter.PPD and a cups filter “rastertodymo.” I had to enable EasyFind to look for hidden files and folders and iTweax to make hidden files appear in the Finder. Also, the Dymo Label app could not find the printer and advised reinstallation. Main problem was that the installer would run satisfactorily, then in the OS X Printers and Scanners Preference Pane, I would try to Add (+) my Dymo 400 printer and the Name and Location of the printer were shown, but the driver could not be found. I managed to get v8.4.2.9 working on my MBP Core 2 Duo running Mountain Lion and connected via USB. If this happens, you can either turn off drop shadows or switch the display to either 256 colors or millions of colors and the distortion will not occur.
